Mark is back from Mana for his R&R break, and we’re hoping the game drives will keep him both relaxed and entertained! We’ve done three drives recently, one just before he arrived and two since, the latest on Wednesday.
On the first, we were lucky to spot four hyenas on the way to the floodplain, followed by warthog, impala, bush-buck, water-buck, and zebra. Bird sightings included a fish eagle and a pair of African hawk-eagles; while the hawk-eagles weren’t feeling photogenic, the male fish eagle put on a lovely display of perching and calling.
Mark’s first drive focused on birds and flora, with the highlight being a Carmine bee-eater hovering right next to the Land Rover. Although I missed the shot, our guest, India captured it perfectly. We also enjoyed great views of several bush-buck.
The final drive brought fewer species but an incredible number of zebra and water-buck on the floodplain, almost as though they were staging their own Serengeti-style migration. We caught brief glimpses of two female bush-buck in the thickening bush, but the standout moment came right at the start, when Mark spotted a beautiful Klipspringer sunning itself on a rock.
Our next drive is planned for December 15, with updates to follow and some exciting new activities on the horizon. Watch this space!
