January kicked off beautifully for us with a trip to Mana for Natureways Safaris. It was incredible to witness the contrast between the wet and dry seasons. We thought sightings would be scarce, but we were in for a big surprise, spotting Impala, Buffalo, Eland, Kudu, majestic Big Bull Elephants, and to round it off two stunning Lions. The birdlife was just as rewarding, from the vibrant Woodland Kingfisher and young Carmine Bee Eaters to the drab yet charming old Hammerkop. An unforgettable sighting we had was a Jackal chasing a Grey mongoose. To top it all off, we enjoyed some breathtaking sunsets. We’ve had several game drives this month, but nothing too exciting—except for a rare sighting of Great White pelicans. We first spotted them at the end of a drive earlier in the month and were amazed to see them still around on Thursday, with our count reaching about 160 birds. Sadly, we didn’t get any pictures, as it happened to be the day Mark left his camera behind because it looked like rain. We’re excited to announce that we’ll be adding a combination of game walks and drives to our portfolio. This will most likely be a half-day activity, with a full-day option that includes lunch at Mashuma Camp.
